Nursing - Masters Direct Entry (MDE)

Program Introduction

The Masters Direct Entry Program at Columbia University School of Nursing is designed for individuals with non-nursing bachelor's degrees seeking to enter the nursing profession. This intensive 15-month program prepares students to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and equips them with the knowledge and skills needed for clinical practice. The program is designated as a STEM field, allowing international students to apply for up to three years of Optional Practical Training (OPT). The curriculum combines clinical experience with theoretical knowledge and partners with major healthcare facilities throughout New York City to provide diverse clinical placements. Graduates are prepared to obtain nursing licensure and work in various healthcare settings, with opportunities to advance their careers as specialized nurse practitioners or clinical nursing leaders through additional education.
