Program Introduction
The Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence program at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) provides students with in-depth education in the core theories, methodologies, and applications of artificial intelligence. This interdisciplinary program integrates aspects of computer science, statistics, machine learning, psychology, linguistics, and philosophy, allowing students to comprehensively understand the various dimensions of artificial intelligence. The program is designated as a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) field, allowing international students to benefit from up to 36 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation. Carnegie Mellon's BS in Artificial Intelligence is offered through the School of Computer Science, a globally recognized institution for AI research, where students have opportunities to directly participate in cutting-edge AI research and innovation. The program builds on a strong foundation of mathematical principles, fundamental computer science, and advanced AI techniques, enabling students to develop expertise in fields such as machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and robotics. Additionally, students cultivate critical thinking abilities regarding the ethical and social implications of artificial intelligence and develop practical skills in applying AI to solve real-world problems through capstone projects and research experiences.
