Program Introduction
The Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program at Brigham Young University (BYU) is a comprehensive graduate program designed to prepare students for professional careers in accounting. The program focuses on deepening accounting knowledge, enhancing critical thinking skills, and developing advanced analytical abilities needed in today's business environment. Students can develop expertise in various accounting areas including taxation, auditing, financial reporting, and managerial accounting. Currently, this program does not have an official STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) designation, which means international students can participate in Optional Practical Training (OPT) for up to 12 months after graduation under standard regulations. BYU's MAcc program emphasizes high ethical standards and professionalism, providing the education necessary for students to prepare for professional certifications such as the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) examination. Students develop the ability to solve real business problems through a balanced curriculum covering both accounting theory and practice. Additionally, the program maintains strong connections with various companies, including the Big 4 accounting firms, providing students with internship and employment opportunities. The BYU MAcc program has traditionally been highly regarded in the accounting field, with graduates demonstrating excellent performance in various accounting positions.
